The author and their text has no role in story telling. Story telling and any form of knowledge within our species comes from observation first and foremost. The first recorded history by humans were cave paintings depicting the observation of animals. The observation of an animals talon led to the creation of the arrow. The observation of a bird picking up prey led to the creation of the spear (stick+arrow). The observation of lights as they passed the window of the train led a scientist to e=MC2. Observation is the foundation for all knowledge. First we observe, then we deconstruct to reconstruct, then we reproduce, then we speak and then we write. But nothing without observation.
